the project

"we love plastic" started as a visual experimentation project using artificial intelligence and how it could show us a dystopian (albeit quite close) future world full of plastic. The project was chosen to participate in the 2023 edition of the circulation(s) festival in paris. subsequently, the initial idea has been readapted and taken to a stage that reflects on what art is, if the human being is the only one capable of creating it, and the future of this confronted with the new non-human actors.

the boundaries of what is a "creation" are fading away. anyone can be an artist, and as long as we don't break the "moral" rules of what the company providing the remote processing services thinks is right, everything will be fine. my first thought when starting to deal with these tools was "is this really art?". after a while i have discovered that the question is insignificant, since whether it is or not, what happens when we can't tell it apart?

technology makes possible what previously seemed impossible and unthinkable. trained machines that can perform tasks until now only reserved for humans. quantum computers under development promise unimaginable performance and power (for example, a current quantum computer can develop a specific advanced calculation process in 200 seconds, compared to the 10,000 years that a normal one would take). i can only glimpse an uncertain future.
as a final point, i have to say that this has been my first experience with the use of ai in one of my projects and the last.
