the project
years ago, long before the covid pandemic, i discovered a video in a us archive where you could see how a series of children were being prepared in schools for a possible chemical or nuclear attack. the video was chilling, since all these young people were prepared in a game mode for the possibility of a third world war. at that point, i wondered if it wouldn't be better to take off the masks and look at the blue sky for the last time, since the life that could arise later would be terrifying. when the pandemic began in 2020, these images returned forcefully to my head. everything seemed to be repeating itself, but this time an abyss of uncertainty opened up before us. for the music of "variations on a 1960's theme" i borrowed a piece for violin and piano by bach that i once played with my violin, in this case leading the sound towards lines created with synthesizers.
